Obituary of Paulette Theresa Brown
Loving Wife and Mother of three children.
Paulette Theresa Brown, affectionately known as “P” by relatives and close friends, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 23, 2023 at the age of 70, at the University of Rochester Strong Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born on September 19, 1952 in Preston Hill, St Mary, Jamaica. Paulette was the daughter of late Bertie Williams, Sr., and Marjorie Worrell Brown.
Paulette attended Caenwood Junior Teachers’ College and Mico Teachers College, now known as Mico University, in Jamaica. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree (BA) from the University of West Indies (UWI). She was a teacher in Jamaica for twenty-five years, considered by her students as a phenomenal teacher. Prior to attending University of the West Indies, Paulette taught at Hill Side All Age School, Denham Town Primary School, and St. Aloysius Primary School in Jamaica.
Paulette and her family immigrated to the United States of America from Jamaica in May of 1996. She received her Masters’ Degree in Education from St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY. Her professional career as a teacher in the United States of America started at Downtown Presbyterian Day Care Center. She continued her teaching career at Martin B. Anderson School No. 1, General Elwell S. Otis School No. 30 (closed in 2014) and John James Audubon School No. 33, in Rochester. Paulette was a compassionate teacher and always considered her students’ education as paramount. Although some may have considered her style of teaching as “tough love with a no-nonsense approach,” Paulette deeply cared about her students which resonates to this day, as she is remembered by so many students and other teachers. She always provided additional support to her students and encouraged them to aspire to be the best and happiest they could be. She was a teacher with the Rochester City School District for almost twenty years until she retired in 2019.
Paulette was a regular member and volunteer at her local church, The Father's House. She always embraced the opportunity to give and share her love with others. She enjoyed crocheting, exercising, dancing, reading, listening to music, cooking, travelling, and puzzle solving. She also enjoyed watching comedies and sharing these precious moments together with family. Paulette was best known for her generous spirit, her witty and peculiar sense of humor, hard- work, resilience and for always being herself, “unapologetically.”
Preceded in death by her parents Marjorie Worrell Brown and Bertie Williams, Sr.; her brother, Horatio “Lex” Williams; and sister, Stacey Brown. Paulette is survived by her husband of thirty- nine years, Noel L. Brown, Sr.; their three children: Noel L. Brown, Jr., Nicole “Nikky” Brown, and Norman L. Brown; her sisters: Melva Williams, Arlette Brown-Stewart (Delroy Stewart), Heather Brown and Tricia Brown; her brothers: Andrew Brown, Wagner Brown (Shannon Rowland), Lance Williams, Milton Williams and Bertie Williams, Jr., and many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandniece (Franchesca Forbes), grandnephew (Justin Forbes) and numerous friends.
